How Unmanned Aerial Systems Are Revolutionizing Medical Deliveries

As I sat in a hospital today visiting a friend, my mind began to wander. During that visit, I I looked out the window and could clearly hear and see a helicopter incoming. I personally am no stranger to this field as my private jet charter company responds to weekly flights in the organ recovery sector of this industry.

I was reminded of the progress that we have made as an industry in unmanned aerial systems over the past few years. So much has progressed since and we now have  worldwide networks of drone medical delivery services. . Companies  like Zipline, Matternet, Wing, Skyports and Drone Up are delivering vaccines, medical supplies, prescriptions, blood and pathology globally. Emerging technology have now offered a sustainable way to offer solutions in humanitarian and medical care to geographically hard to reach areas.

Next generation aircraft powered by electric and hybrid systems are at the forefront of this transformation. Evtol or electric, vertical takeoff and landing vehicles can now step in as a replacement in some cases offering an economically and environmentally sound alternative. Many advanced aviation OEM’s such as Airbus, Bell, Archer, Ers System, Joby, Lillium, and Pipistrel have aircraft models designed specifically for medical use cases.

We have also seen completely  new ideas emerge from companies like Jump Aero which has created an (eVTOL) designed for rapid emergency response. Their flagship product was created to help medical professionals  reach rural emergencies swiftly, carrying essential life saving equipment. It can land in tight, hard-to-reach areas like residential streets and is easy to activate and deploy quickly.
